Moke has always been about more than clothes.
It’s a family story. One that started in Oamaru, took a pretty unexpected detour through Shanghai, and eventually found its way back home again.
In 1999, our family packed up life in small-town Oamaru and moved to Shanghai, China. It was a huge shift, different language, different culture, different pace of life and, looking back, it shaped so much of what Moke would eventually become.
For more than a decade, China became home.
It was where we learnt first-hand about the apparel industry, manufacturing, sourcing, textiles and what actually goes into making a great garment. It was also where we built relationships, gained experience and developed a real love for fashion, design and business.
Fast-forward to 2013 and Moke was born.
Founded by Keith Stevens, Sarah Jennings and Hamish Stevens, Moke brought together everything our family had learnt overseas with everything we loved about home.
And really, the idea was pretty simple.
We wanted to make clothes that worked for real life.

Living in New Zealand, you quickly learn that your wardrobe needs to be ready for pretty much anything.
A cold morning can turn into a beautiful afternoon. A weekend away can involve four seasons in one day. You might be walking the dog, standing on the sideline, heading to work, travelling, grabbing a coffee and meeting friends for dinner — sometimes all while wearing the same jacket.
So we design with that in mind.

Lightweight layers that travel beautifully. Everyday pieces that can be dressed up, dressed down and worn again and again.
Because we don’t think practical should ever have to mean boring.
