What Do Waterproof Ratings Mean for Rainwear?

Waterproof ratings show how much water a fabric can handle before it starts to leak.

For example:

- 5,000mm rating means the fabric can hold back 5 metres of water before it starts to soak through.

- 10,000mm (or 10k) rating means it can handle 10 metres.

The higher the number, the better the waterproofing. Keep in mind: heavy rain and long exposure increase the chance of getting wet — and fully seam-sealed garments help keep water out even more.

5,000mm Rating

5,000mm and Below

Rainwear in this range offers light protection — ideal for short walks, drizzles, or misty mornings. While not suited for heavy downpours, these styles are typically ultra-lightweight and packable, making them the perfect "just-in-case" jacket to have on hand.

Our Moke Kim Trench falls into this category — designed with style and versatility in mind, it's your go-to layer for light rain days when you still want to look polished.

10,000mm Rating

Jackets and coats with this rating provide great coverage when you’re out in the rain – though you’d want to avoid being out in a heavy downpour for a prolonged amount of time.

The Georgie is our most popular style in this category, with the Billie coming in a close second!
